about this role

This two-year Print Operator (Level 2) Apprenticeship is in our Bindery – the part of our factory where we turn printed sheets of paper into everything from brochures to books. You will develop core knowledge for a career in print, and carry out a range of tasks, such as trimming, folding, collating, and binding, to create finished products, ready to be packed and delivered to customers.

key responsibilities

♦  Set up machines to cut, fold and bind printed sheets of paper

♦  Feed and take paper out of machines and monitor the quality of output as they run

♦  Adjust machines to maintain precise results, escalating issues to other members of the production team, where required

♦  Remove wastepaper from machines and move to recycling bins

♦  Maintain machinery and ensure workspace is clean and tidy at the end of production runs

♦  Prepare and pack finished products into boxes and onto pallets for delivery

♦  Attend production meetings to understand work priorities.

is this role right for you?

To be successful in this role, you should have a steady and methodical approach to work, a good eye for detail, and be interested in starting a career in the printing industry. An interest in mechanics and how machinery works would be an advantage.

This is a physically active role and you'll need to be able to stand for long periods. You'll be working as part of our Production Team but will be undertaking work on your own most of the time. You should be able to carry out simple addition and multiplication to keep on top of your work.
