Established in 1984, The Oxford Sinfonia is a chamber orchestra of the highest standard. It aims to promote the performing arts within Oxfordshire and focuses on supporting young aspiring soloists and composers in the early stages of their careers. Through a long association with conductors and soloists of national and international standing, and its work with choral societies and charity events, it has performed some of music’s best-loved works over nearly 40 years.

Holywell Press is delighted to be sponsoring Oxford Sinfonia’s first concert since January 2020 and the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. The upcoming concert performance of Mozart’s dramatic opera Don Giovanni takes place on September 18th at the Sheldonian Theatre in Oxford. It’s hoped that a pent-up appetite for live entertainment following so many months of lockdown restrictions will see a big return of opera and classical music fans attending the concert.

Chairman of The Oxford Sinfonia, Neil Halliday, is looking forward to the event. “It’s so exciting to be finally able to perform live again after a 20-month absence – and what a fantastic concert to kick off with. The event’s conductor and music director, Ian Brown, has brought together some of the best young rising star soloists to perform, including a Garsington Opera award winner.”
