SFA (Oxford) chooses Holywell Press to design and print its bi-annual reports, brochures and event materials

SFA (Oxford) provides bespoke consulting and analysis in ‘tomorrow’s commodities’. It is a world-renowned authority on Platinum Group Metals (PGMs) – precious metals known for their purity, high melting points and unique catalytic properties which include platinum, palladium, rhodium, iridium and ruthenium – as well as battery raw materials critical for electric vehicles and the hydrogen energy transition.

The company’s research services are used by global industries involved in PGMs, battery raw materials and hydrogen economy. Its customers includes miners, processors, fabricators, end-users, investors, and recyclers of critical metals.

As well as producing bespoke consultancy reports for clients, SFA provides market intelligence in bi-annual reports. These high-quality printed reports are highly valued by SFA’s clients and have a long shelf life as reference materials.

Holywell Press has been SFA’s preferred design and printing partner for well over a decade. For David Mobbs, SFA’s Head of Marketing, it’s a relationship, and communication tool , that’s easy to justify: “Well designed and produced print material is critical to our client’s ability to easily comprehend complex data and charts. It’s a medium we rely on, not just for our premium products, but also for marketing, events, and client meetings.”

SFA’s printed annual reports contain substantial, technical, and detailed industry insights – generally produced as A4 perfect bound books with high production value. “Our bi-annual reports live on people’s shelves for a long time, and they get well used. We want them to last, so the printing and binding quality is paramount.”

SFA (Oxford) usually supplies their reports as print-ready artwork. But when the SFA team is busy, they send over MS Word files and Excel charts and ask Holywell to do the book design.

Holywell’s creative studio has also designed custom graphics, including cover artwork and infographics, for the bi-annual reports. “Holywell provides valuable fresh thinking on the graphical elements in our printed reports,” according to David. “Their designers came up with a very effective way of colour-coding sections of one of our larger (350 page) book designs, so that it was much easier for customer to reference. This approach has now been standardised across other materials.”

With 99% of our business based outside the UK, our graphics have to work in multiple languages, so good design is critical.”

In addition to producing SFA’s flagship products, Holywell has printed the company’s marketing brochures, business stationery, interactive information cards, and created set graphics and banners for events.

choosing a versatile print partner

David cites four reasons he values Holywell as SFA’s design and printing partner – design, quality, speed, and service. “Because our printed reports are detailed in nature and, due to changing market dynamics, time sensitive, I really appreciate Holywell’s ability to meet our fast turnaround times.

“For the last 13 years we’ve run a customer event at one of the Oxford Colleges or University venues. We’ve used Holywell to design and produce materials and a stage surround for these events and have been impressed by their willingness to help out even when the set-up is out of office hours. I know I can rely on Ben and the team to cross the ‘t’s and dot the ‘i’s. This attention to detail and level of service is really important to us.”

David was also delighted to learn about Holywell’s partnership with The Woodland Trust’s Carbon Capture scheme. “We’re now incorporating the Carbon Capture logo on our printed reports which indicates a way we help the environment whilst using quality printed material.”
