Holywell Press has been Modern Art Oxford’s printer for over 50 years since the gallery opened. At the time, they were close neighbours in the centre of Oxford – Holywell Press on Alfred Street and Modern Art Oxford just around the corner on Blue Boar Street.

Like most organisations, Modern Art Oxford’s printing needs have included everything from business cards, letterheads, folders and other office stationery to annual reports, newsletters, notepads, calendars, and Christmas cards – all of which Holywell Press have delivered. But, as a successful gallery running 3-4 major exhibitions every year, it also relies on Holywell to print everything required to promote its exhibitions, connect with donors, and drive visitor engagement.

Clare Stimpson, Head of Digital & Communications at Modern Art Oxford, inherited the relationship with Holywell Press when she joined six years ago. She now manages the production of exhibition flyers, posters, exhibition programmes, and other promotional materials, as well as looking after the website, social media channels and digital projects.

For Clare, one of the most important things about sourcing print for Modern Art Oxford is knowing that she’s working with a local independent organisation with a real interest in environmental sustainability. Holywell Press generates its own electricity with solar panels on the factory roof, prints on Carbon Captured paper, and reuses packaging to reduce waste. In 2023, it began the transition of company vehicles to an all-electric fleet to facilitate zero emission delivery across Oxford and the surrounding areas.
