When the founder of a Cotswold-based artisanal food company searched for a local printer to produce product packaging and flyers to launch her business, she was pleased she found Holywell.

Sophia Lingham-Tsiaparas discovered sheep milk yoghurt when she met her husband five years ago. He had grown up on sheep milk products in Greece and found UK dairy products, based on cow’s milk, difficult to digest. With some difficulty, they sourced sheep milk here and, appreciating the immediate benefits on her own gut health, Sophia was inspired to set up her business.

Philotrophie is a food business, born in Greece but made in the Cotswolds. It produces creamy sheep’s milk yoghurt, following the traditions of Sophia’s new family living in the mountains of Greece. With sheep milk sourced from a farm in North Wiltshire, her ‘Shepherd’s Yoghurt’ is set in authentic Greek terracotta pots and is sold to commercial and private customers across the region.

finding a local printer

Having already developed a visual identity for her brand, Sophia began to research local printers to help her produce product flyers and bespoke printed packaging.

“I really wanted to find a company that understood what we are trying to achieve and for it to be local. Collaborating with other local businesses is really important for us, as for all Greeks – it’s all about community.”

Sophia Lingham-Tsiaparas, Owner of Philotrophie

When Sophia came across Holywell Press, she instantly connected with the company's history and the story of a family continuing a traditional business. With no prior experience of working with a commercial printer, online reviews were important to her:

“I read many reviews saying how fabulous Holywell was to work with and praising the quality of their work, so I was sold.”

Sophia was looking for a local printer that could produce bespoke packaging (product labels and printed paper wrappers) for her terracotta pots. She sent Holywell her initial packaging design, wanting to find the right materials for a quality finish. Sophia was invited to visit and brought along some empty pots to help the Holywell team visualise her idea. The meeting sparked conversations around practicality and cost-effectiveness and allowed Sophia to handle different paper samples and discuss print finishes.

From my very first contact, everyone at Holywell has been great. They are a joy to work with and really put themselves out when many others would not. I feel very fortunate to be working with them!

Since working on Sophia’s packaging, Holywell has now designed materials for tasting sessions, as well as scaling up Philotrophie’s packaging designs for a new range of larger yoghurt pots.

I love how proactive Holywell has been. Instead of just printing the artwork I sent, they suggested changes here and there to improve it which was really helpful. On one occasion, a member of the team – Robin – hand delivered the product labels and sleeves to my business unit one evening. This was particularly kind and was definitely an example of going beyond that which was required or expected.

Philotrophie Shepherds’ Yoghurt is currently stocked at Daylesford Organic, Ascott village shop, Chadlington Quality Foods, and is on the menu at the Rise and Flour in Milton under Wychwood and Burford Garden Centre café. It is also available direct to private customers.

Buoyed by feedback from customers who value the superior consistency, flavour, and health benefits of her yoghurt compared to supermarket offerings, Sophia is already developing new product ideas.

“Holywell’s patience, proactivity, support, and quality are second to none. I would never go anywhere else, and I would definitely recommend them to others.”
